Oh, the weather outside is frightful... but the food is so delightful! ❄️

It's almost wintertime here in the Northern hemisphere, and that means it's time to snuggle up by the fire with a warm, comforting meal. Or a steaming mug of hot chocolate and a cookie or two. Honestly, both scenarios sound pretty wonderful to me!

In this post we're highlighting the seasonal trending recipe ideas that perform well on Google year after year — we're not talking TikTok trends or new foodie gadgets, but rather the content that users reliably search for this time of year (and that will consistently drive traffic back to your site) in the winter months.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful… but the food is so delightful! ❄

It’s almost wintertime here in the Northern hemisphere, and that means it’s time to snuggle up by the fire with a warm, comforting meal. Or a steaming mug of hot chocolate and a cookie or two. Honestly, both scenarios sound pretty wonderful to me!

In this post we’re highlighting the seasonal trending recipe ideas that perform well on Google year after year — we’re not talking TikTok trends or new foodie gadgets, but rather the content that users reliably search for this time of year (and that will consistently drive traffic back to your site) in the winter months.

Let’s get right into it, shall we?

Cookies

Friends, we are entering the season of holiday desserts, and to me, cookies are the epitome of holiday baking. Gingerbread cookies, peanut butter blossoms, thumbprint cookies… I love ’em all!

So it should come as no surprise that cookie searches skyrocket in December, right?

Google Trends results for cookie recipes.

Consider sharing a roundup of your ten favorite cookie recipes on your blog, or perhaps host a cookie-baking challenge with your readers for the entire month of December (à la Pinch of Yum’s Holiday Bucket List). How fun would that be?

Looking for something to make your cookie recipes stand out from the pack on Google? Consider sharing cookie recipes perfect for a cookie swap!

Peppermint

Something else people will undoubtedly be searching for this holiday season? Peppermint!

Google Trends results for peppermint.

Peppermint is such a unique flavor because there are so many ways you can enjoy it this time of year. Peppermint mochas, peppermint brownies, peppermint bark… I’ll take one of each, please!

It’s time to start sharing all the peppermint recipes, my friends.

Champagne

You can’t think New Year’s Eve without some bubbly — why not share your own take on the beverage with a champagne recipe?

Google users are looking for champagne recipes, so what’s your favorite champagne cocktail?

Eggnog

Whether you love it or hate it, eggnog will most definitely be another popular search term as we head into December! Just look at these spikes:

Google Trends results for eggnog.

Do you know the secret to making perfect eggnog at home? Or do you have a recipe for eggnog scones or eggnog cookies? Now is the time to share those recipes!

Recipes to Bring Good Luck

With the New Year celebration comes the tradition of eating certain dishes thought to bring good luck in the coming year — black-eyed peas, collard greens, lentils, grapes, and cornbread just to name a few.

Google Trends results for good luck recipes.

Healthy Ingredients

While December is all about holiday recipes and comfort food, chances are your readers might start looking for some healthier options once January rolls around.

Google Trends results for healthy recipes.

One fun way to encourage healthy eating might be to run a challenge or share a meal plan on your blog!

For instance, Pinch of Yum previously ran a series called Plant-Powered January where they shared two new fun and delicious veggie-forward recipes each week for the entire month of January. They also put together weekly meal plans and grocery lists for the recipes to help their readers get prepared and ready to cook each week.

6 Pictures of plant based meals that reads 'Plant-Powered January (30 Days of Eating + Loving Veggies'

This is also a great time of year to share immune-boosting recipes or content with your followers as cold and flu season really picks up!

Veganuary

Speaking of challenges… have you heard of Veganuary? It’s an annual challenge that encourages people to follow a vegan lifestyle for the month of January.

Google Trends results for veganuary.

Veganuary helps raise awareness about the benefits of eating plant-based and encourages individuals and businesses to try and incorporate more plant-based meals and cruelty-free products into their everyday lives.

With the popularity of Veganuary, you might see an uptick in traffic this time of year if you’re a vegan blogger. And if you like to share vegan recipes from time to time, January would be a great time to post a few on your blog or social media!

Super Bowl Food

As we move into February, there will be one thing on (almost) everyone’s mind: the Super Bowl. And more specifically, Super Bowl food!

Google Trends results for super bowl food.

While some people gather to watch the actual football game, others are strictly there for the food. Truly, is there anything better than munching on a huge spread of game-day snacks?

To help your readers prep for the big day, you could consider sharing a roundup of your all-time favorite Super Bowl party foods. Or you could create an Instagram Reel or TikTok video showcasing what your Super Bowl spread will look like, featuring some popular recipes from your blog.

Three cheers for football and food!

Valentine’s Day Recipes

Another important day for food in February? Valentine’s Day! It falls on February 14 each year, and readers will be looking for lots of great recipes to enjoy with their loved ones.

Google Trends results for Valentine's Day recipes.

Looking for ideas of what content to create this Valentine’s Day? It might be fun to share a three-course dinner for two on your blog! You could share tips for prepping everything ahead of time and even pair it with a fun cocktail.

Or if you’re flying solo this Valentine’s Day, consider posting about some of your favorite ways to enjoy the holiday by yourself, with family, or with friends.

Chocolate

Of course, we can’t chat about Valentine’s Day without mentioning chocolate. Searches for chocolate recipes start creeping up in November for the holiday season and will get another bump with Valentine’s Day so it’s the perfect time to post some new chocolate recipes on your blog or social media.

Google Trends results for chocolate recipes.

And don’t feel like you’re limited to just chocolate recipes! Share some tips about the best ways to melt chocolate, or break down all the different types of chocolate in a blog post.

Let’s all give chocolate the love it deserves this February. ❤

And if you’re starting to brainstorm some fall recipe ideas, we’re here to help you out! In this post, we’re sharing a roundup of trending recipe ideas this fall to help give you some ideas as you plan out your content calendar for the rest of the year.

Looking for more specific ideas for each month? You can check out our monthly food content trends posts here:

Let’s jump right into it!

Apples

Get excited, everyone: we’ve almost reached apple season.

Searches for apple recipes start their two-month spike at the end of July, and that means your readers will be looking for any and every excuse to cook and bake with these juicy lil’ beauties!

Google Trends results for apple recipes.

Why not feature your family’s favorite apple pie recipe on your blog this fall? Could you whip up a delicious pork chop recipe featuring apples?

Or maybe you could think about sharing a roundup of twenty fun ways to use up leftover apples. I bet your readers would love it!

Comfort Food

Move over, summer salads — fall is most definitely the time of year for comfort food. Because as the weather gets colder, is there truly anything better than curling up to eat something warm and cozy?

Google Trends results for comfort food recipes.

Searches for comfort food recipes start to climb in the early fall season and peak right around the Christmas holiday season.

When it comes to comfort food, we’ve got the obvious candidates: mac and cheese, loaded chili, homemade soup, cheesy lasagna… the list goes on and on.

But if you wanted, you could also try giving these comfort foods a unique twist this season! Consider sharing your best tips to load these hearty dishes up with extra veggies, or chat about some ways to make these fan-favorite recipes dairy-free or gluten-free.

Crockpot Recipes

And speaking of comfort food, now’s the time to bust out the crockpot. Searches for crockpot recipes start peaking in October!

Google Trends results for crockpot recipes.

If you want to dive deep into this trend, it might be fun to do a crockpot week (or even a crockpot month) on your blog! You could get your readers excited by sharing a calendar of the upcoming recipes so they can cook along with you. How fun would that be?

And don’t feel like you have to just stick to your crockpot — chances are people are also looking for cozy Instant Pot and air fryer recipes in these colder months too. Yay for time-saving kitchen appliances!

Pumpkin

You can’t talk about trending recipe ideas this fall without pumpkin. It will probably come as no surprise that pumpkin searches soar in October. So let this be your sign to bust out all those pumpkin-centric recipes!

And when it comes to sharing pumpkin recipes, the sooner you can share ’em, the better. Dunkin’ and Starbucks both bring their pumpkin drinks back in August, so ready or not, pumpkin season is upon us, my friends.

Candy

And aside from pumpkins, the other thing that October is known for? Candy! Searches for “candy recipes” spike this time of year, just in time for Halloween.

Google Trends results for candy recipes.

Chances are many of your readers will have piles and piles of candy lying around after Halloween. Why not inspire them to use up all that candy in a recipe or two?

We’re talking cookies loaded with leftover Halloween candy, Twix cheesecake bars, white chocolate candy corn pretzel bark… Talk about a sugar overload! Bonus? This increase in search traffic for “candy” will continue through the Christmas holidays.

Stuffing or Dressing

Then, once we get a few weeks away from Thanksgiving, turkey (and Thanksgiving side dish) searches will unsurprisingly start trending this season. Looking at this graph, talk about a major spike in searches, right?

And why stop at just turkey and stuffing (or dressing, depending on where you live!)? If you’re up for it, you could consider sharing a full-on Thanksgiving meal plan on your blog this year. We’re talking hors d’oeuvres, side dishes, desserts, and more.

Pie

Last but not least, we can’t forget about my favorite food this time of year: pie.

I’m definitely not alone in my love for this delectable dessert — searches for pie go crazy during the autumn season. And the best part? There’s a lot of content you can make related to pie.

Google Trends results for pie recipes.

Share your go-to pumpkin pie recipe with your readers, spill the deets on how to create a perfectly flaky pie crust (no soggy bottoms allowed!), or give some tips on how to prepare pies ahead of time during the days leading up to Thanksgiving.

Let’s give this wonderful dessert the love it deserves this season. ❤

Don’t forget these holidays!

The fall season is a major time of year for food-centric holidays, and we mentioned a few of them throughout this post.

Be sure to mark these upcoming dates on your calendar for 2024, and consider sharing some fun recipes that your readers can celebrate with.

  • Labor Day: September 2
  • Last Day of Summer (for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere!): September 22
  • Rosh Hashanah: October 2 – October 4
  • Canadian Thanksgiving: October 14
  • Halloween: October 31
  • Diwali: November 1
  • Día de los Muertos: November 1 – November 2
  • Veterans Day: November 11
  • American Thanksgiving: November 28
  • Hanukkah: December 25 – January 2
  • Christmas: December 25
  • Kwanzaa: December 26 – January 1
  • New Year’s Eve: December 31

For our friends in the Southern hemisphere…

We can’t forget about you! While we’re focused on cozy comfort foods as we head into fall, those in the Southern hemisphere will soon be embracing all the lovely food that spring has to offer.

And what’s a pool party without a salty snack or poolside sipper? Consider sharing a recipe for a pool party mocktail, ice cream sandwich, or veggie tray! If that doesn’t make you excited for warmer weather, I’m not sure what will.

Matcha

Matcha has been on the rise for several years now and spring feels like the perfect time of year to feature this fresh, grassy ingredient.

There are so many options for matcha-inspired recipes — think beverages, cookies, breads, and more!

Lemonade

There is nothing better than a cold glass of fresh-squeezed lemonade in the warmer months, and Google agrees!

Happy October, friends! Can you believe it?

We’re in full-on fall mode here in the Northern hemisphere, and I’m just so darn happy about it. I know I’m not unique by saying that fall is my favorite time of year. The cooler weather, the changing leaves, the cinnamon-spiked food; this time of year just screams comfort to me.

As you probably know, readers are starting to search for some fall-centric recipes and ideas to help them embrace autumn and the upcoming holidays. Luckily, this is the perfect opportunity for creators to give these readers some inspiration for the season.

Here’s what readers are searching for in October:

Pumpkin

Okay, this really isn’t a surprise, is it? It certainly isn’t a surprise for me who is currently typing this with three cans of pumpkin puree sitting in her pantry just waiting to be used.

Pumpkin searches soar in October and the Google Trends graph perfectly visualizes that fact.

Google Trends results for pumpkin recipes.

This is an example of a super cyclical search term (and no, that’s not a technical term 😉). Searches for pumpkin sharply spike in October and then quickly decrease.

This is a sign that you should post your pumpkin-centric content sooner rather than later. Homemade PSLs, pumpkin curry, pumpkin bars, or my personal favorite: pumpkin bread… no pumpkin-packed treat is off-limits!

Halloween & Thanksgiving (& Christmas. I know.)

Searches for Halloween and Thanksgiving recipes clearly spike in October. In fact, you’ll be able to tell from our other “Food Content Trends” topics this month that people have Halloween on the brain. We’ll talk a bit more about Thanksgiving next month, but keep in mind that Canadian Thanksgiving takes place in October!

Google Trends results for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas recipes.

And you know where you might want to focus some of your efforts? Pinterest!

Because Pinterest is a huge source of Halloween ideas for readers, try and think about content that will do especially well as a pin. Perhaps create some step-by-step photos and put them into a pin. You can also think like a reader this fall, and put yourself in their shoes: what are they wanting to see this Halloween?

Screenshot of the search 'Halloween recipes' on Pinterest

And as much as you might not want to start thinking about it, those A+ planners in the world are already starting to think about Christmas. I’m talking gift guides! Meal planning! Tips for holiday celebrations! Your readers are looking for advice, and you can find ways to help them out.

Candy

Not that it should come as a surprise, but searches for “candy” spike in October… just in time for Halloween!

Google Trends results for candy recipes.

Candy cookies, brownies, cakes, milkshakes — the sky is the limit on candy-centric recipes this time of year!

Apples and Caramel

‘Tis the season! Yep, I’m talking about apple season.

We talked a bit about apples last month, but apple searches really spike this month. Apples will never taste juicier, sweeter, or all-around more mouthwatering than they do this time of the year.

This opens up a world of possibilities to us as food bloggers. Make applesauce, apple pie, or apple dumplings if your readers like their sweets. You can also go the savory route with pork and apples, apple salads, or cabbage and apples.

And what goes perfectly with apples this time of year? Caramel, especially because searches for “caramel” start their three-month spike in October!

Google Trends results for caramel recipes.

Caramel-dipped apples, caramel apple blondies, hot caramel apple cider, apple and caramel crepes – you can’t go wrong with this incredible, fall-inspired duo.

Oktoberfest

Bier, Essen, Spaß…oh my!

Google Trends results for Oktoberfest.

If you’re a beer or travel fan, or of German descent, you might want to plan some content around Oktoberfest, a huge fair held in Munich, Germany.

What are some of your favorite beer + food pairings? What’s the difference between various types of beer? Do you have any beer-spiked recipes you’ve been waiting to share?

Holidays to Remember

Like I mentioned above, we’re quickly getting into the holiday season, and holiday pins are already starting to get some traction. Here are some holidays to remember as you’re planning your editorial calendar for these next few months of 2024:

  • National Cookbook Month: October
  • Canadian Thanksgiving: October 14
  • Halloween: October 31
  • Veterans Day: November 11
  • American Thanksgiving: November 28
  • Start of Hanukkah: December 25
  • Christmas: December 25
  • Kwanzaa: December 26
  • New Year’s Eve: December 31

And for those around the world…

We’ve already mentioned Oktoberfest and Canadian Thanksgiving, but we are just getting started!

While we’re embracing pumpkin spice season here in the Northern hemisphere, we want to acknowledge that those in the Southern hemisphere are experiencing their spring at the moment, so some of these fall trends really don’t make sense for them. Instead, they might be looking for lighter dishes that are full of fresh, seasonal produce.

For example, a lot of seafood (like Australian Salmon, Red Mullet, Ocean Trout, Stripey Tuna, Eel, and Oysters) is in season in October. Fresh herbs and veggies like asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, celeriac, chicory, globe artichokes, and even pumpkin would also be delicious focal points for your in-season dishes.

Questions: Where are the majority of your readers located? How do you make sure you publish seasonal content for them?

Do you smell that? I smell cinnamon and nutmeg and mashed potatoes and pie and cookies and happiness. Okay, maybe not that last one, but the other ones for sure!

We’re coming up on the second to last month of the year. Can you believe that?! I surely can’t.

But with a new month comes new trends. And as we’re nearing the holidays, searches for food-related entertaining ideas are spiking.

That being said, this is the perfect opportunity to start promoting your holiday-themed content, and here are a few trends to help get you started:

We’re coming up on the second to last month of the year. Can you believe that?! I surely can’t.

But with a new month comes new trends. And as we’re nearing the holidays, searches for food-related entertaining ideas are spiking.

That being said, this is the perfect opportunity to start promoting your holiday-themed content, and here are a few trends to help get you started:

Thanksgiving

You knew this one was coming, right? Arguably the biggest food holiday of the year makes people crazy for searching for the perfect recipes.

My suggestion to stand out from the crowd this Thanksgiving? Try to reimagine the classics. And there are a few ways that you can come up with those creative ideas.

Ubersuggest can help you find Thanksgiving-related content ideas. For example, “Thanksgiving recipes for vegans” is a relatively low-competition keyword, so it may make sense to create some content around that term.

screenshot of Ubersuggest with 'thanksgiving recipes for vegans' highlighted

So when planning out Thanksgiving content, it may make sense to be a bit more specific!

Create some vegan Turkey-less Day recipe ideas. Post a few different stuffing ideas. Publish a non-traditional turkey recipe. Focus on healthier Thanksgiving grub. Plan a low-carb or keto Thanksgiving menu. Surprise your readers by giving them a new and exciting Thanksgiving favorite.

The options are truly endless when it comes to Turkey Day! 🦃

Turkey & Stuffing & Dressing

That being said, turkey and stuffing/dressing searches are (unsurprisingly) trending in November!

But just how much are they trending? Well, hopefully this will help visualize it for you:

Google Trends results for stuffing and dressing.

Crazy, right? Those sharp spikes in November should be a clear message that you should publish turkey & stuffing recipes accordingly.

If you really want to try and hit it out of the park, try combining the two for an easy, all-in-one dish for your readers’ holiday feasts!

Pie

Do you love pie? If so, you’re in luck (and you’re not alone). “Pie” searches go crazy this time of year.

A lot of that has to do with it being Thanksgiving, and many of the top queries related to “pie” (apple pie, pie crust, and pumpkin pie make the top five) signify that as well.

Google Trends results for pie recipes.

If you’ve made pie from scratch before, you know that pie crust can be finicky. If you know some troubleshooting tips, create a resource for your readers to help with some of the most common issues they may face when making pie dough.

And if you need help brainstorming common pie crust problems or questions people have, just type “pie crust” into Google, and scroll down to the section that says, “People also ask.”

People also ask box on Google search result for Pie Crust

Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, & Cyber Monday

Some people really love the tradition of getting up early, bundling up, and giving their credit cards a workout the day after Thanksgiving. And that makes it a trending topic in November.

The whole weekend is filled with deals and discounts, and if affiliate marketing is part of your income-making strategy, this is the perfect time to promote your affiliate links with gift guides and holiday posts.

Crockpot Recipes

It’s that time of year, friends. Break out that crockpot! With the weather getting colder and the nights getting darker, searches for crockpot recipes are up all winter long!

Google Trends results for crockpot recipes.

This is a great opportunity to combine your readers’ interest in crockpot recipes with their desire to find the perfect Thanksgiving recipes.

Crockpot Thanksgiving recipes can take the stress out of timing what goes into the oven and when, and they’re typically on the easier side of cooking. Not only that, crockpot recipes pretty much guarantee that the food cooked in them will be hot when it hits the dinner table.

Holidays to Remember

As you’re planning out your content for November, don’t forget about these upcoming holidays!

  • National Peanut Butter Lover’s Month: November
  • Día de los Muertos: November 1 – November 2
  • Veterans Day: November 11
  • American Thanksgiving: November 28
  • Start of Hanukkah: December 25
  • Christmas: December 25
  • Start of Kwanzaa: December 26
  • New Year’s Eve: December 31

And for those around the world…

While we’re focused on cozy comfort foods, those in the Southern hemisphere are celebrating spring at the moment!

This time of year is all about fresh fruits, veggies, and produce. Foods with ingredients like peas, herbs, greens, root vegetables, and berries can give you a starting point when creating seasonal content for your readers in the Southern hemisphere.

Now over to you: Which trends are you focusing on in November? Which do you think your readers will resonate with the most?

Food Content Trends in September https://www.foodbloggerpro.com/blog/trending-now-in-food-blogging-september/ https://www.foodbloggerpro.com/blog/trending-now-in-food-blogging-september/#comments Sat, 01 Jul 2023 09:00:00 +0000 https://www.foodbloggerpro.com/blog/trending-now-in-food-blogging-september/

Can you believe it’s nearly September?!

Here in the Northern hemisphere, the temperatures are starting to dip, the leaves are beginning to turn, school has started back up, and the Pumpkin Spice Latte will be finding its way into the hearts and stomachs of many.

As with the change of any season, fall brings a whole gaggle of new trending search items. In-season produce, upcoming holidays, and popular fall pastimes all influence readers’ searches in September.

Ready to jump in? Let’s do it.

Can you believe it’s nearly September?!

The temperatures are starting to dip, the leaves are beginning to turn, school has started back up, and the Pumpkin Spice Latte will be finding its way into the hearts and stomachs of many.

As with the change of any season, fall brings a whole gaggle of new trending search items. In-season produce, upcoming holidays, and popular fall pastimes all influence readers’ searches in September.

Ready to jump in? Let’s do it.

Fall Holidays

It’s (almost) the most wonderful time of the year!

While it may feel a little early to start thinking about Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, would you believe that searches for recipe ideas for those holidays are already starting?! Here are some dates to put on your editorial calendar this September and October:

  • Labor Day: September 2
  • Last Day of Summer (for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere!): September 22
  • Rosh Hashanah: October 2 – October 4
  • Canadian Thanksgiving: October 14
  • Halloween: October 31

That said, you have to ask yourself what posts can be beneficial for your readers. What can make your content stand out and be supremely helpful amongst the billions of other Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas ideas on the internet?

It’s never too early to start asking yourself these questions as we head into the fall and winter holiday season.

Seasonal Content

Along those same lines, it’s time to start revisiting some of that seasonal content you already have on your blog and see if you can make it even better, more relevant, and more shareable.

The last three months of the year (also known as quarter-four or Q4) are rapidly approaching, and these months are super important for food creators. Why? As people start searching for holiday recipes, advertisers tend to spend more money, which can provide a big boost for creators who monetize through sponsored content, brand partnerships, and display ads.

You’ll want to make sure to get your seasonal content in tip-top shape for when that time comes! Create new pins, update the images, or add more details that can help guarantee your readers’ success.

Curious to learn more about republishing content?

Apples

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, especially when they’re juicy and in-season!

September is the perfect time of year to start formulating those apple-centric recipes, as searches for apple recipes start their two-month spike this month. Those vibrant yellows, greens, and reds are sure to create beautiful and festive dishes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert.

Google Trends results for apple recipes.

You could even incorporate some of last month’s back-to-school trends into your apple creations, as these searches are still trending this month. Easy apple after-school snacks, on-the-go apple breakfasts, and quick and easy apple lunch ideas…the possibilities are endless with this wünderfruit!

Fall

!!!!!!!!! I have absolutely no shame in saying that I am 100% in love with fall. Zero. It’s the best time of year! Even if it feels like it lasts for approximately 5.4 seconds.

Fall recipe searches are trending in September, and this opens up SO many fun content-sharing opportunities.

The obvious: pumpkin spice everything. Starbucks typically releases their Pumpkin Spice Latte, so loads of people are ready to start experimenting in the kitchen with pumpkin, squash, and all-things-spice.

But let me ask you a question: when you think of fall, what kind of recipes come to mind? Think back to being a kid, to high school, to college. What were the recipes or foods that got you into the fall spirit? Share them, and the stories behind them, with your readers.

Football

With the start of fall comes the start of football here in the U.S.! For many of us, that also means the start of football snacking season — and Google agrees!

Google Trends results for football recipes.

While many food bloggers publish content around the Super Bowl, early fall is also prime time for football-related eats. Think appetizers, M&M cookies inspired by your favorite team, and crockpot recipes. Speaking of crockpots…

Comfort Food

‘Tis the season for one of the most exciting food trends of the year: comfort food! And I mean, let’s be serious: we’re all in need of some comfort food this year.

Google Trends results for comfort food recipes.

Some ideas: slow cooker recipes, soups, casseroles, Instant Pot recipes, one-pot meals – basically any recipe that will give you that “hug in a bowl” feeling. 🙂

And for those around the world…

Canadian Thanksgiving is coming up (it falls on the second Monday in October)! The foods enjoyed for Canadian Thanksgiving are very similar to those we love for American Thanksgiving – think turkey, ham, stuffing, and pies. If you get a jump start on your Thanksgiving recipe content, you might get a boost from your Canadian readers, too!

In the Southern hemisphere, the September Equinox marks the beginning of Spring! This audience may be looking for lighter recipes filled with seasonal vegetables like asparagus, broccoli or radishes. Readers might also be interested in tips on starting a fruit, vegetable or herb garden this time of year!

Phew! So many exciting things are happening as the season is starting to change.

Now let’s chat: How are you going to make the most of fall this season?

These posts are designed to outline some of the trending ingredients and search terms in the coming month so that you’re all prepped and ready to create awesome, click-worthy content on your blog.

You’ll notice that there’s a very strong theme to the searches happening in August, so this is a really great opportunity to curate content that resonates with those searchers. Any ideas what it might be?

Ready to find out? Let’s jump in.

Back-to-school

Back-to-school searches peak this month, and it’s not hard to imagine why!

Google Trends results for back to school.

Readers are searching for easy, quick dinners, inspiration for packed lunches, or ways to effectively manage time when it seems a lot more limited. You can support your readers with your content during the back to school season.

Zucchini

Okay, this trend kind of cracks me up.

You know what happens at the end of each summer: you have a literal mountain of zucchini to use up before it goes bad. And unsurprisingly, your readers are looking for ways to use it up.

Google Trends results for zucchini recipes.

There are so many zucchini fritter, bread, noodle, and muffin recipes out there. Try jazzing it up a bit to help your content get seen and shared.

What if you added a Nutella swirl to your zucchini bread? Or you could create the perfect summer-fall hybrid breakfast: zucchini pumpkin muffins! Or maybe you could find a way to use up all of your readers’ leftover summer produce — the ultimate summer veggie hash, anyone?!

Use that noggin of yours to really create something that will stand out.

Tomatoes

These red, juicy fruits are trending this month! And for good reason: they’re at the peak of their season in August!

Honestly, it doesn’t get much better than a thick, salty tomato slice on top of some warm bread in the summer, but try thinking of some creative ways to use this trending fruit.

Marinated tomatoes.

Use them as a cup for dip! Use them in end-of-summer salads! Use them in a toasty roasted tomato sauce for fall! Tomatoes are so versatile; I’m sure you’ll find a delicious way to use them.

Canning

Along those same lines, canning starts its upward trend in August.

And it totally makes sense; readers want to find ways to preserve all of the yummy summer produce they’ve picked, grown, and/or bought. Canning always intimidates me, so I’d love to see an easy-to-follow canning post full of tips and tricks to make my first canning experience as easy as possible.

Another idea? Host “Canning Week” on your blog and feature your favorite canning recipes like jams, salsas, preserves, and pickled veggies. Or you could team up with some of your blogging friends and link to each others’ canning recipes throughout the month. External link building at its finest!

Google Trends results for canning.

One last thought: one of my favorite tools on Google Trends is the little “Related Topics” section at the bottom of each page to show you what else is trending with your original search term.

Related topics for canning.

Upcoming Holidays

August is summer’s last hurrah, and people are already starting to search for fall and — dare I say — winter holidays.

Labor Day this year falls on September 2, but readers will be searching for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas content before you know it!

And for those around the world…

While it is warm and muggy in the U.S. in August, those in the Southern Hemisphere are in the middle of winter!

Why not post a comforting soup or casserole recipe on your blog this month? These recipes will appeal to your readers living in colder climates, and get you ahead of schedule for the crisp Fall weather on the horizon.

We wanna know: Which of these trending searches are you most excited to tackle this month? Which do you think will resonate the most with your readers?

It’s SUMMER! The season of sunshine and fresh foods and beaches and sand between our toes.

And that means it's also the time of year for some exciting (and delicious) trending searches in food blogging! So, if you’re looking for ideas for summer-inspired content, look no further: here’s what’s trending in July! ☀️

It’s SUMMER! The season of sunshine and fresh foods and beaches and sand between our toes.

And that means it’s also the time of year for some exciting (and delicious) trending searches in food blogging! So, if you’re looking for ideas for summer-inspired content, look no further: here’s what’s trending in July! ☀

Upcoming Holidays

If you’re not new to the food blogging game, you’ll know there are always food-related holidays to look out for. In a time like the summer where there aren’t that many well-known holidays to prepare for, it might be fun to pick out a few of these food holidays for which you can create recipes. One of my favorite resources to stay current on all of these crazy holidays is Foodimentary.

Did you know that July 6 is National Fried Chicken Day or that July 11 honors one of my favorite summer drinks, mojitos, on National Mojito Day? OR that July is National Pickle Month and National Blueberry Month? Anyone? Bueller?

Yeah, I didn’t either. That’s why a site like Foodimentary is a great resource for food bloggers to stay current with these fun holidays and give you some ideas to build out your editorial calendar for the month.

While the searches for the 4th of July are an obvious focal point, searches for other less-common times of the year start to increase. For instance, in July, some people are already starting to look for back-to-school lunch and snack recipes, as well as “Christmas in July” ideas.

Corn

July is also the month when one of my favorite veggies is trending: corn! Three cheers for corn!

Corn is interesting because it trends a few times each year. It’s trending now because it’s in-season, and it will also trend again as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches (corn casserole anyone?).

Make dips! Make meals! Make snacks! There are so many things you can do with corn, and your readers are here for it. While recipes are always a great idea, our sister site, Pinch of Yum, also has a great guide for grilling corn. Think outside the box!

A photograph of corn on the cob with the blog title 'How to Grill Corn' written across the image.

Summer Sweet Treats

Along with all of those healthy recipes, people’s interest in sweets peaks during the month of July. If you’re surprised by this like I was, I have just one word for you: s’mores. In fact, there’s a huge spike in searches for “s’mores” this month.

Google Trends results for s'mores.

Everyone can make a s’more. How can you jazz it up? Make it vegan? Add different candy? Make a white chocolate version? Add cookie butter?! Make this classic dish your own and give your readers some fun ideas.

Another popular July search term? Ice cream, and lots of it.

Google Trends results for ice cream recipes.

Interest in ice cream peaks in July, so be sure to promote your frozen sweet treats this month!

Perhaps a nice fruit-filled sorbet or a…wait for it…s’mores-flavored ice cream (!!!) will make your readers (and taste-testers) happy this season.

Picnic

Nothing says summertime like a picnic lunch at the park. And by the looks of the Google trends results for the term picnic, others agree!

Picnic results on Google Trends.

Take advantage of this interest in picnicking to share some recipes for picnic sandwiches, a nice refreshing picnic lemonade, or even combine July trends and make a picnic fruit salad (more on that, below)!

Fruit

Unsurprisingly, searches for fruit spike in July. Who would have thought?

Admittedly, “fruit” is a vague search term. One of my very favorite things about Google Trends though is checking out the top related queries for a search. If we look at those for “fruit,” this is what we see:

Google trends related queries for fruit

Dragon fruit, fruit salad, fruit trees and passion fruit would be helpful areas of focus this time of year. What about posting a dragon fruit fruit salad!

These related topics will give those vague trending topics some context, and help you produce (lol, get it?) helpful, valuable content for your readers.

Try Something New

Remember how we talked about The Summer Slump last month? Summer is the perfect time to try publishing new content and see how it performs with your audience and on social media.

A great thing to try: video. If you haven’t tried your hand at this popular way to repurpose your recipes, summer would be a great time to start. It’s a great way to refresh some of your older content and keep it relevant, as well as adding a little extra to your recipe’s structured data.

If you don’t know where to start, don’t worry—we’ve got your back. Check out this article about the gear you’ll need to create awesome food videos, and see what you can do.

And for those around the world…

We are sending all the warm vibes to our friends facing colder temps in the middle of winter in the Southern Hemisphere this month.

July 1st also marks Canada Day, which is an important holiday for Canadians at home, and living abroad! Consider sharing a poutine or maple syrup recipe, to commemorate the occasion.

Now let’s chat: What kinds of content do you think you’ll be focusing on in the month of July?

Friends! It’s officially summer in the northern hemisphere! 🎉

Well, sort of. The official first day of summer falls between June 20-22 every year, but in my eyes, the start of June always signifies the beginning of copious amounts of summer produce, bottomless tropical cocktails, and long sunny days.

Does it get any better?!

But you know what a new month means: new trends in the food blogosphere! Here’s what is happening in June:

Friends! It’s officially summer in the northern hemisphere! 🎉

Well, sort of. The official first day of summer falls on June 20 this year, but in my eyes, the start of June always signifies the beginning of copious amounts of summer produce, bottomless tropical cocktails, and long sunny days.

Does it get any better?!

But you know what a new month means: new trends in the food blogosphere! Here’s what is happening in June:

Summer Holidays

I’m not sure about you, but I am very much looking forward to summer holidays. For some reason, life just feels better in the summer.

As readers will be looking for holiday recipes and entertaining ideas this month, we’ve rounded-up a few important dates to keep in mind. As a reminder, the FBP Team is based in the U.S., so this list mostly reflects the holiday calendar in the U.S. We always recommend that you check the holidays in your region to best serve your readers.

  • Pride Month: all of June
  • Memorial Day: May 27
  • National Donut Day: June 7
  • Juneteenth: June 19
  • First Day of Summer/Summer Solstice(for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere): June 20
  • Father’s Day: June 16
  • Canada Day: July 1
  • Independence Day: July 4

Believe it or not, fall and winter holidays will be upon us before we know it, so be sure to give these summer holidays their due!

Grilling and BBQ

‘Tis the season for firing up the grill!

Google Trends results for BBQ recipes.

Do you have the secret to perfectly juicy grilled chicken? How about a vegetable marinade perfect for the grill? Or what if you post a roundup of your favorite skewer recipes? There are so many options for grilled goodness this time of year!

As a reference, BBQ is a very cyclical search term, so June is the perfect time of year to give your readers your very best BBQ-ing tips and recipes!

Salads

And while you’re sharing all your expertise about BBQ-ing, don’t forget about the salad recipes! More and more, your readers will be searching for summer salad recipes, so it might be the time to share some of your favorites.

Google Trends results for salad recipes.

And I’m not just talking about a bowl of greens with a little bit of dressing poured on top. Why not top salads off with all those delicious summer fruits like peaches and strawberries?

Hey—maybe even share your go-to loaded pasta salad or a decadent egg salad recipe. A salad’s a salad, right?

Camping

Dig your tent out of the garage because it’s time to go camping!

Camping season starts in early May and typically lasts until early October, so chances are your readers have the great outdoors on their minds nowadays.

And honestly, isn’t the best part of camping the food?! I spend all year long dreaming about campfire s’mores and delicious feasts served around the fire.

Could you share all your favorite camping recipes in a roundup post? Or maybe you have some unique camping hacks to share with the world? The possibilities are endless!

Pinch of Yum S'mores bars.

The Summer Slump

As we enter into the summer season, The Summer Slump might start hitting home for many bloggers.

I read this article by Ali from Gimme Some Oven years ago, and it has always stuck with me: 5 Tips for Blogging Through the Summer Slump. Your traffic (and therefore your income) might dip a bit in the summer.

I love Ali’s suggestions for blogging through the Summer Slump, rather than getting bogged down in worries that your pageviews aren’t where you want them to be. My favorite tip in the article is all about taking risks and experimenting with your blog.

Is there a series you’ve been thinking about adding to your post lineup? Do you have some off-niche recipes or posts you’ve been thinking about publishing? Try recording some recipe videos. Or maybe try a challenge with your readers to keep them engaged? Summer is the perfect time to try out your ideas! Take that risk and press Publish.

Or…take a break. When things start to feel a bit crazy in life, sometimes a break from blogging is exactly what you need. Make it as long or as short as you like, but taking a step back may just help you relax and come back to blogging in a refreshed state of mind. 💆‍♀️

And for those around the world…

While the June solstice marks the beginning of summer in the Northern hemisphere, it marks the beginning of winter for those of you in the Southern hemisphere! So if you (or your readers) are based in the Southern hemisphere, you could share some cozy, cold-weather recipes for that audience. Curious as to what’s in season this month? Check-out this list of foods in season in Australia this month, to help guide the recipes you share.

Now let’s chat: What are you planning on posting this month? How are you going to balance these summery trends?
